What is a dinner group?

While I know there are a lot of dinner groups or dinner clubs out there, I still get asked "What is a dinner group?", on a regular basis. My response is always this..."It is the most wonderful thing in the world!" As a wife and a mother of two adorable kids, I have enough to worry about without the added complication of what to make for dinner every night. Not to mention having variety each night. I have been blessed with dinner group for the last four years. And have had the opportunity to meet and make some amazing friends in the process. I also have found that there are a lot of great cooks out there!

Now to really delve into what a dinner group is. Basically, it's getting together with three other families (that's four families in all) and each taking a day Monday through Thursday to make dinner for all four families. For example, my day of the week is Monday. I would make dinner for all four families that day. Then on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday dinner would brought to us from the other ladies in the group. We all try to deliver dinner between 5:00-5:30 p.m. Our group has agreed to just worry about making the main dish each night. Then we each provide our own side dishes. Each quarter we create a menu so we know what to expect each evening for dinner. This really helps to know what side dishes we need. We are also very flexible with one another. Sometimes things come up, that's life. If you can't be flexible than dinner group is not for you.

After I explain to curious people about how my dinner group works the next question I get is, "What kinds of things do you make?" This is why I am creating this blog. I am going to post different recipes that I and some of the ladies in my dinner group use for dinner. I will also post how we determine amounts and what is included with each meal. I hope that his will be a fun site for anyone who likes to find new dinner ideas, or maybe prompt some of you to start that dinner group you have been thinking about. I will say, it has been a blessing in my life to be part of the two groups I have cooked with.

Dinner Group.... Best Darn Thing, AMEN! Thanks Lindsey for inviting me to your first group. I loved those gals. And, I absolutely love our second group. Anyone thinking about doing this, don't hesitate like I did for 2 years. DO IT! It has totally been a blessing for me the last year!

What a great idea! I'm such an awful cook and deciding what to cook each day is the bane of my existence. If I could find some people who are interested in this, I'd like to start one. How do you know how much food 4 families will eat? I'm used to just cooking for my small little group. Also, how do you find room on your stove/in your oven for so much food? I need some tips on logistics along with the recipe! ;)
